Shirley Hemphill is best known as a Comedian. American Comedian and Actress who played Shirley Wilson on the TV show What's Happening!! From 1976 to 1979 and what's going on right now!! This was from 1985 to 1988. She stared at the short-lived sitcom One in a Million, too. She was born on July 1, 1947 in Asheville, NC. Hemphill attended Hill Street School and then received an scholarship at Morristown University, where she graduated in physical education. Hemphill returned to Asheville two years later, where she got a job at the nylon manufacturing plant. She sometimes appeared on the TV show The Wayan Brothers, starring Marlon Wayans. She worked at a nylon manufacturing plant in Asheville. She performed her own stand-up comedy act on a number of TV shows including The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson and A&E's An Evening at the Improv. In December 1999, Hemphill died of kidney failure at her West Covina, California, home at the age of 52.
