Shayna Baszler Personal Life

Baszler was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Baszler has her father's German ancestry and her mother's Chinese ancestry. Baszler studied religion at MidAmerica Nazarene University, Kansas, before starting her mixed martial arts training. She is a part of the LGBTQ community. Baszler was a key movement spokesperson to create a South Dakota athletic committee for combat sports. She once spoke against Rep. Steve Hickey, who once categorized MMA as the “child porn” of sports. After attending Baszler at the Next Edge Academy of Martial Arts, Baszler 's training site, as well as other mixed martial arts fighters and practitioners, Hickey said he regretted his analogy as it detracted from his point that remained true for him. Aside from combat sports, Baszler coaches the South Dakota-based roller derby team, Sioux Falls Roller Dollz, and is a certified Emergenc.
