NBA Executive Career
- On February 21, 2017, media sources reported that the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA) had hired Pelinka to serve as general manager as part of a management shake-up that included the hiring of Magic Johnson as executive vice president of basketball operations instead of Jim Buss and the dismissal of former GM Mitch Kupchak. On March 7, 2017, Pelinka was formally appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Los Angeles Lakers to sign a five-year contract with the franchise. In an interview with ESPN's First Take, May 20 , 2019, Magic Johnson confirmed that Pelinka retained his place as President of the Lakers and had “backstopped” him.
