Biography

Michael Bloomberg is an American business magnate who served as New York City Mayor for three consecutive terms, starting with his first election in 2001. He is the founder of Bloomberg L.P., a global financial data and media company with 88% of the shares. He’s also a well-known philanthropist, among the world’s richest men. A Harvard Business School alumnus, Bloomberg was noted for his brilliance and early determination. Starting his career at an entry-level position with Salomon Brothers investment bank, he became a partner within 15 years. When Salomon’s acquisition by another company left him without a job, he went on to form his own company, Innovative Market Systems, a financial-data service company, later renamed Bloomberg LP.

The company was tremendously successful and has grown into a multi-billion dollar global data and media company. In 2001 he ran for New York City Mayor as a member of the Republican Party ticket and won the election. A popular mayor, he won re-election in 2005 and 2009. Bloomberg has always believed and is considered to be a very generous philanthropist.
