Tancredi was born in Ancaster, Ontario, to the parents Peter and Ann-Marie Tancredi, the Italian-born father of Ascoli Piceno. She started playing soccer at the age of four. She played soccer, volleyball and track at Cathedral High School in Hamilton, Ont. During her senior year, she was named Soccer MVP and Senior Athlete of the Year. Tancredi started playing for the Under-19 Provincial Team and Burlington Sting Club program. She assisted the Burlington Sting win the Canadian title and the Ontario Cup, and was titled Burlington Sting's Most Valuable Player (MVP) in 1999.
