Born on February 8, 1978, she is best known for coaching 2016 Olympic gold medalist Laurie Hernandez and 2018 World Champion Riley McCusker. She was suspended for eight years by the U.S. Gymnastics in April 2020 due to her violent behavior.

U.S. Gymnastics authorities first issued misconduct allegations against Haney in 2016. In August 2019, it was revealed that Haney was under investigation by the U.S. Gymnastics for reports of physical and emotional misconduct. At least half a dozen families filed lawsuits against Haney, claiming that she forced injured gymnasts to remove casts and start practicing, as well as shouting and intimidating gymnasts. Her hearing on the charges began on 3 February 2020. She was barred from coaching young athletes before the conclusion of the hearing.
