Lynn Gunn Personal Life
Lyndsey Gunnulfsen was raised in Lowell , Massachusetts. She spoke of her lifelong obsession with graveyards, death, and the supernatural, saying that this was the motivation behind many of the paranormal and macabre themes in her song-writing. Spiritually, she said she was “in astrology and life paths and odd energy stuff.” Gunn said that she had suffered with depression, and that this was a huge influence to much of her song-writing. Gunn also referred to bands such as Paramore, Radiohead, Florence and The Machine, and The Weeknd as musical influences. Lynn Gunn is a graduate of Lowell High School. Participating in Battle of the Bands at the school with some fellow classmates, she graduated in 2012, was initially going to join MassArt but eventually backed up in search of music, Gunn spent some time working at the Hot Topic and Guitar Center. Gunn is one of the most recognizable women in rock and a strong LGBT voice in the alternative music scene. In an interview with Rolling Stone, she said that she first came out as gay to her parents when she was 18, leaving a letter under her mother's pillow before she went on a tour. “First and foremost, I want to be identified as an artist and imaginative before anything else,” she explained in an interview with Playboy. “I think my sexuality is the last thing to check out of the list.” Gunn clarified her decision to be outspoken about her sexuality in an interview with Newsbeat in 2015: “I never had anyone to look up and be like 'yeah, the person's OK and they're gay.' If I can be that to somebody, that's why I'm honest about it.” Gunn was one of many artists invited by GLAAD and Billboard to talk about her online. Gunn pointed to her family's love when she came out and urged others to love them. Gunn introduced the Icon Award to Laura Jane Grace of the American punk rock band Against Me! APMA Awards 2017.
