Karen Clark Sheard is a singer, guitarist and songwriter who won the Grammy Award. She's best known as The Clark Sisters 'youngest member, an American gospel group. She rose to fame during Clark Sisters 'hiatus after recording her critically acclaimed and much awaited solo album Finally Karen, which spawned her hit, R&B-flavored Just For Me and Nothing Like You in Balm in Gilead.

Going back to her early childhood, in the year 1960, Karen was born in Detroit, Michigan as Karen Valencia Clark. She is actually 59 years old. She is Reverend Elbert Clark's youngest child and a prolific gospel choral director, Dr Mattie Moss Clark. Leo, Jacky, Denise, Elbernita “Twinkie” and Dorinda are her youngest of six daughters, their siblings. She is by descent American, and belongs to African-American ethnicity. Further, by faith she is Christianity.

She attended Mumford High School for Education in Detroit, Michigan; graduated in 1979.

At age 6 Karen began singing the gospel with her sisters in what became known as The Clark Girls. Her participation in the 1996 “Don't Give Up” of the Island Inspiring All-Stars, contributed to her signing with Island Records.

She was the second gospel artist to sign to Elektra Records, after Yolanda Adams. In 2002 she released her debut album Elektra 2nd Chance. The album was led by the single “Be Sure” and the smooth, futuristic sound of the disc was not well received in the gospel community although it was vocally in excellent shape.

The 2003 follow-up The Heavens Are Telling did well, but came at an inconvenient time when Elektra Records was being merged into Atlantic Records and thus struggled to reach the commercial success of her previous records, peaking at # 188 on the US a total of 106 positions below 2nd Chance. Billboard 200-despite attaining a respectable # 44 on the U.S. Billboard Top R&B / Hip-Hop Songs, high # 3 on the United States. Billboard Gospel albums chart and was her first album to be charting in the United States. Christian Albums Billboard chart, where it peaked at # 11.

She eventually signed with Word Records in 2005, after a bidding war with several labels, and released It's Not Done, the sequel to her 1997 debut album Eventually Karen was scheduled to release her 45th birthday on November 15th, 2005, but was postponed and released the following year. Most of It's Not Over was recorded live at her home church in Detroit, Michigan in 2005, while the last three tracks were recorded on stage.

It was her first solo album not to include her daughter's guest vocals, and was the first to include Israel Houghton's production, which handled much of the band.

It was another critical success for her, despite having a much bigger sound than her previous albums, and charted modestly at # 124 on the U.S .. U.S. billboard 200 & # 4 Billboard 200 Albums R&B / Hip-Hop.

As the songwriter, she received the Grammy Award for Best Gospel Song performed by The Clark Sisters for “Blessed & Highly Desired” on February 10th, 2008.
