He was born in the Czech Republic on 6 June 1920. He played Jan in the movie D2: The Mighty Ducks, starring Emilio Estevez. He graduated from the Prague Conservatory before entering the Prague Opera House as a bass singer. He played the role of the Amish patriarch in Peter Weir's Witness movie.
