James Howard Woods is best known as an American producer and actor. Born on April 18, 1947 in Utah, James Howard Woods grew up in Rhode Island and graduated from high school, becoming one of the toppers of his class. He earned a scholarship to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, only to quit the sophomore year and pursue his passion for acting. Theater was his place at first, before he broke into movies, and soon the silver screen became his arena to showcase his talent. His first film was ‘All the Way Home,’ in which he was given a few scanty roles as a supporting actor. However, it was his performance as a merciless cop-killer in the movie ‘The Onion Field’ that made him famous. He soon went on to become a toast of filmgoers, followed by a series of offers for the depiction of violent characters. His talent was not limited to playing negative roles on its own. He also performed impressive voice-overs for animation series as well as a few memorable roles as a good guy. No wonder, top directors like Martin Scorsese, Clint Eastwood and Rob Reiner have come back to him with more projects. With an Oscar nomination and a number of awards, including ‘Emmy’ and ‘Golden Globe,’ Woods has firmly carved a niche for himself in the annals of cinema with his outstanding talent.
