Jake Bugg was born in Nottingham, Jake Edwin Charles Kennedy, to musical parents who divorced when he was young. His father, whose last name was Bugg, was a nurse, and his mother worked in sales, both of whom had made recordings before. He grew up in the Clifton Council of Nottingham. He started playing guitar when he was 12 years old. He also points out that Don McLean's “Vincent (Starry, Starry Night)” on the Simpsons episode was his formative musical moment. Jake Bugg 2011: Beginnings
Bugg was selected to perform at the “BBC Introduction” stage at the 2011 Glastonbury Festival at the age of 16 after submitting material to their website and subsequently signed to Mercury Records. His songs were then put on a variety of BBC Radio playlists, with “Country Song” being used in a national TV beer commercial for the Green King IPA.
Jake Bugg 2016: On My One
Speaking with NME at the beginning of 2015, Jake said he was working on his third album, “the quality of the songs was much darker” than his earlier work. On February 16, 2016, he released a new album, “On My One,” free of charge. On February 25, his latest single “Gimme the Love” premiered on BBC Radio 1. Bugg also spoke about the upcoming album On My One, which will be released in June. He revealed on 26 February that the album would be released on 17 June. He posted the tracklist, too, and showed the artwork. A number of tour dates were revealed in May 2016, in London and Nottingham, for June. His 2012 single “Trouble Zone” was the theme of the BBC TV series Happy Valley broadcast in 2014 and 2016.
Jake Bugg 2017: Hearts That Strain
Jake Bugg's latest single “How Soon the Dawn” was played on BBC Radio 1 on 2 August 2017, hosted by Annie Mac. On August 4, Bugg released a single on all music video platforms. Later, he released his fourth studio album, Hearts That Pressure. Released on 1 September 2017. He'll embark on an acoustic tour through November to support the new album.
